What to expect: the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council starts in Yerevan
An important step will be the signing of the Free Trade Zone Agreement with Singapore, but it will hardly run without discussing the topic of transit.
A meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council with the participation of leaders of 8 countries will be held in the capital of Armenia on October 1.
Almost all the leaders of the EAEU countries have already arrived in Yerevan to participate in the meeting - President of Moldova Igor Dodon, leaders of Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Kazakhstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov, Alexander Lukashenko, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev. The last to arrive on September 30 was Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. Before arrival, he said that Iran’s free trade zone with the EAEU will begin to operate on October 27.
There is official confirmation of the upcoming bilateral meeting between Pashinyan and Putin. The Armenian media unconditionally argue that the topic of gas will be discussed.
A formal meeting in a closed format should begin at around 1:00 pm, with the participation of only the heads of the EAEU. And it is not necessary that this meeting last for an hour and a half.
The official press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission says that the agenda includes issues of international economic cooperation with third countries and associations, financial policy, energy and a number of other topics.
The issue of bureaucratic acrimony in transit traffic through the territory of the EAEU countries has already become an acute issue of discussion. The head of the EEC Tigran Sargsyan spoke quite harshly about this. The fact that the rules for the transportation of goods in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) should be uniform were also expressed by the Deputy Prime Ministers of Armenia and Russia - MherGrigoryan and Anton Siluanov. They hope to solve this issue through digitalization.
After the meeting in a narrow circle, the "guests" - presidents of Iran, Singapore, and Moldova - will join the leaders. It is with Singapore that today the leaders of the EAEU countries will sign the Free Trade Zone Agreement. This issue can be considered the "highlight” of the agenda of the EAEU summit.
Head of the EEC Tigran Sargsyan is also envisaged to present commemorative coins to the heads of delegations for the 5th anniversary of the Eurasian Economic Union.
After that, the heads of delegations will most likelygo to the TUMO Center for Innovative Technologies, where the forum "Transit Potential of the Eurasian Continent” is underway.
