Pashinyan: If there is no compromise, we are ready to fight to the end
October 19, 2020 - 21:23 AMT

FMG.NEWS - The settlement of the Karabakh conflict must be based on a compromise, and if there is no compromise, the Armenian side is ready to fight for the rights of its people to the end, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an interview with TASS.

FMG.NEWS has singled out the main points from his interview.

About the need for compromise

We are ready for compromise, we have always said that. The starting point for us is the status of Nagorno-Karabakh. If Azerbaijan agrees on the issue of the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, then we can say that there are prerequisites for a compromise.

The solution (of the conflict) should be based on a compromise, and not on the capitulation of one of the parties.

If there is no readiness from the other side, we are ready to fight to the end for the rights of our people, for the rights of our compatriots in Nagorno-Karabakh.

About Karabakh

The right to self-determination of Nagorno-Karabakh, i.e. the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, has a strategically important role for us.

Maybe not at the highest political level, but there is already some movement in the process of the international recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The processes that are now taking place in and around Nagorno-Karabakh have already gone beyond the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. This situation affects the national security issues of many other countries in our region and even outside the region.

About Turkey's role

The international community has virtually no doubts that Turkey is fully involved in hostilities, that Turkey was the main instigator of this war, and that Turkey hired and transported terrorists and mercenaries from Syria to the conflict zone.

Turkey's actions are aimed at ousting Russia from the South Caucasus.

Some forces, and Turkey in particular, don't want the Russian initiative to succeed, thus hoping to undermine the authority of the Russian Federation in the South Caucasus.

Turkey, which actually is the main instigator of this war, cannot participate in peacekeeping or any peace processes, because, obviously, Ankara is not interested in peace.

Azerbaijan, with help from Turkey and Syrian and Libyan mercenaries deployed by Ankara, started a war against Karabakh (Artsakh) in the morning of September 27. The Armenian side has reported deaths and injuries both among the civilian population and the military. Foreign and local journalists too have been injured in Azeri shelling of towns and villages.
